The Rose Bowl hosted Screen Yorkshire giving 'applicants' the opportunity to meet Nokia, the world's largest mobile phone manufacturer.
Over the past 12 months, the mobile marketplace has taken a significant shift in development opportunities for downloadable applications (apps) to consumer handsets. This new business model is creating emerging opportunities for app creators. The event, which was held at the University's award-winning Rose Bowl, provided an insight into development opportunities in the mobile app marketplace, working with Nokia plus the opportunity to find out about the Ovi application store and hear about Nokia's current app development initiatives.
Martin Allison, Dean of the Faculty of Business & Law said: "Leeds Met prides itself on being a university for learning, for careers and for life. We encourage our students to be equipped with the skills needed to maximise their potential in their chosen profession and to aim high. Working in partnership with successful major global employers such as Nokia is vital both to ensure that our student experience is enriched and so that practical real-world solutions are shared, creating a boundaryl ess learning organisation which is of direct benefit to commercial organisations and society."
Emma Cheshire, Head of Industry Development at Screen Yorkshire said: "We're delighted to be working with Nokia to present what we hope will be an exciting and informative event for the region's digital companies. Yorkshire is home to some of the country's best digital agencies and developers, and whilst mobile platforms offer companies real opportunities, the market is very competitive. Up-to-the-minute information has never been more important in maintaining that competitive edge."
