Website shortlisted for award

Leeds Met's website has made it through to the final of a competition celebrating success in Public Relations.

The University fought off stiff competition from more than 1,000 entrants to be shortlisted in the Yorkshire and Lincolnshire region for the CIPR Pride Awards, the results of which will be announced  later this year.

The awards aim to showcase the best PR work being carried out across the UK, with 12 regions taking part: East Anglia; Home Counties South; Midlands; North East; North West; Northern Ireland; Scotland; Thames and Chiltern; Wales; West of England; Wessex and Channel Islands and Yorkshire and Lincolnshire.

Leeds Met's entry follows the successful launch of the University's website last year, which among its innovations makes extensive use of YouTube and social media such as Facebook and Twitter.

Future developments for the website will include the introduction of blogging to complement and revitalise the University's reflections, which are submitted by students and staff.

Head of News & Media Helen Goodwin said: "Our progress to the final of this competition is a testament to the hard work and collaborative effort of the News & Media team working in tandem with the Web & Multimedia team.

"The Leeds Met website is fast-establishing itself as one of the most innovative and forward-thinking in UK higher education, and we look forward to further enhancing our reputation for excellence in the future."

Ann Mealor, CIPR Acting Director General said: "This year more than ever, consultancies and organisations entering the PRide Awards want to spotlight their achievements while boosting morale - and being a PRide finalist does just that.

"Having gone through rigorous judging to reach the shortlist is a great achievement and I offer my congratulations to all those who have reached this stage of the competition."
