Year eleven students from Pudsey Grangefield Maths and Computing College and The Morley Academy attended workshops in Music and Sports as part of Leeds Met's Aspire 2 Achieve programme.
The students, who have been enrolled on the programme since year nine, have previously attended a motivational launch event at our University as well as taking part in various workshops, delivered in school, looking at the benefits of higher education, courses and careers, student finance, student accommodation and student life.
This week's programme of music workshops was organised by a group of Leeds Metropolitan music technology students as part of their music in the community module and saw the school pupils involved in a mixture of theoretical and practical activities as they produced their own remixes of popular music tracks, applied sound effects to movie clips and learnt their way around a music studio.
Music technology student Rebecca Dainton said: "Before today I'd considered teaching, but had never been sure what to expect. Today's event has not only helped with my course, but also given me the chance to experience teaching first hand, an experience I'm definitely keen to repeat in the future."
One of the participants praised the experience: "I really liked getting the opportunity to record in a professional studio, then taking these sounds and mixing them into a track."
