An evening of cartoon films

New York artist Dan Meth

New York artist Dan Meth made a stop at Leeds Met on Thursday evening, on his way to showing his work at the Edinburgh Film Festival later this month. Dan, who trained as an illustrator at Syracuse University, exhibited a series of his cartoon films at nti based in Old Broadcasting House.

Since leaving college, Dan has become better known for some of the funny viral web cartoons. His client-commissioned ads and personal short films have received much attention, traffic, and press.

In 2006, Dan Meth was hired by Fred Seibert to help develop new cartoons, podcasts and TV projects at Frederator Studios. His first two series, 'The Meth Minute' and 'Nite Fite' were firm fan favourites, earning millions of views and press attention.

More recently, Dan won a Streamy Award for best Animated Web Series.

Dan's visit to the University came following encouragement from Leeds artist Katie Brown, who is a huge fan of his work and who has also been working with nti Leeds and using the space at Old Broadcasting House to display her own work - the application of web2 and social media as a recovery tool within mental health. Katie will be producing the night on 20 August and asking Dan to join in with the Big Draw and Travelling Moleskins project.

Speaking ahead of his visit Leia Bassett, Sector Officer at nti, said, "It's really exciting to have someone so talented and creative coming to Leeds Met to talk about their work and their influences. Dan's work has had some great reviews and we're really looking forward to being able to not only see some of his latest work, but also the chance to ask questions and find out a bit more about what he's up to."
