Attitude, Character and Talents Awards 2009

TV's Harry Gration announced the winners of this year's ACTS awards on Thursday evening.

Award winners included Natalie Ledgard and Jane Taylor from the Faculty of Business & Law for Excellence in Teaching, Learning & Research, Joan Sheehan from Innovation North for Excellence in Service Delivery, Chris Pugh from the Faculty of Arts & Society for Commitment, Paul Mackreth and Dawn Taylor in the Faculty of Health for Creativity, Innovation & Enterprise.

In the category for High Performing Team, Alison Bohan, Sheila Casey, Claudette O'Garo, Jessica Owens and Elizabeth Sargent, from the Faculty of Health took the award. Daniel Benton from Met Office HR collected the accolade for Team Colleague, Kathryn Brown from the Carnegie Faculty University Research Office picked up the award for Team Leader and in the field of Pioneering Partnerships, Volunteering & Community Work, Anthony Main from Innovation North was selected for the prize.

The awards, which were announced in The Rose Bowl, recognise excellence in the standards of performance that Leeds Met expects from all staff, and also set the benchmark by which to recognise the achievements of colleagues over the course of the past year.

Staff were invited to nominate colleagues who have demonstrated outstanding contributions in the following areas: Student Centredness, Working with Others and Future Focus.

All of the nominations were considered by a panel of governors and senior managers. The panel consisted of the Pro-Vice-Chancellor for Assessment, Learning and Teaching (Sally Brown), the HR Director (Steve Pashley), the Associate Director of Human Resources (Sarah Gray) and two staff governors (Sue Sherwin and Janet Carr).

The short-listed nominees attended a Staff Awards dinner on Thursday night during which the winning nominees were announced.

All of the winning nominees have been awarded with a certificate. In addition, individual nominees received a £100 gift voucher and the successful team was awarded £500 to spend on a team activity.
