On the road less travelled

The University's Institute for Enterprise has won a Make Your Mark competition to have a live video link-up to an entrepreneur based overseas during the Global Entrepreneurship Week, and are asking students and staff for nominations.

The competition asked institutions to tell them about their planned events for the week long event starting on 16 November and were looking for the best, based on an international theme, a quirky location or a high-profile speaker. 'On the Road Less Travelled' which is being held on 18 November was the entry that secured the prize.

The event will offer students and staff the opportunity to share stories of their entrepreneurial adventures and features a presentation by Conor Woodman from 'Around The World in 80 Trades' - a TV business challenge that made The Apprentice look easy.

It will be collecting travellers tales, top tips and taking time to reflect on those journeys near and far that have 'made all the difference'. A half day information-sharing session will give students and staff the opportunity to share stories of their entrepreneurial adventures including presentations on the volunteering trips that the University co-ordinates. There will be themed areas and guests will be able to hear interesting stories along the lines of hostel heaven; how I tried to save the world; global networking; sofa surfing; you ate what?; what not to wear and you wouldn't believe what happened next.

If you have an interest in linking with another country or entrepreneur who would provide inspiration to staff and students attending the event, please send your suggestions to Liz Carter in the Institute for Enterprise.
