Computing Courses

Last year saw us double the number of courses offered, and we were able to offer courses to some 450 people during each semester. We plan to maintain this level of service this year. The courses have been very well received by LMU staff; your positive comments have been very encouraging and your suggestions have been, or will be, acted upon.

Unsurprisingly, Microsoft Windows has provided the bulk of the requests for courses, particularly the “Introduction to Microsoft Office” and “Word Processing with Word” courses

New offerings this semester include half-day Word courses covering tables and mail merge, organizing long documents, and document styles. We will run a newly-developed PowerPoint course showing how to quickly produce an effective set of presentation slides.

For support technicians, we are developing an overview of the most recent changes in PC technology. We will also be running an introduction to the Internet facilities that are gradually becoming available to LMU staff and students.

We work in conjunction with the Access and Independent Study office, and this year the courses can form part of the requirements for the Accreditation of Work Practices. Ordinarily, there will be no charge for LMU staff registering for these courses. The exception is for late cancellations if no substitute can be found, where we will charge £40 to cover our costs.

You should receive your personal copy of the current schedule, giving details of all courses offered, with the Weekly at about the same time as this Newsletter (end of September). If you would like another copy, please email Morag Clunie or call her on extn 5956.
