As from September, Computing Services and Library Services have returned to using the same EMOS Copytex cards for laser-printing and copying services.
In view of the increased number of copies produced on these services, and as an enhancement to the service, higher-value cards are now available. The cards on offer are:
Any mixture of copies from printers or copiers can be done on either card and on any site where student facilities are available. The £5.00 copy card offers a very good discount that we hope will be a valuable gain for students.
£2 dispensers will replace the old £1 dispensers (in Libraries, IT Suites, Sugarwell, Cavendish). The new £5 dispensers are in the Library only.
Staff Copying Service
Due to the exceptional and continuous rise in paper prices this year, we have been forced to increase our copy charge. We have not increased repro recharges for some years, and local copying is now subsidized by central copying. It has been agreed that the charges for 1995/96 will be:
As a comparison, 500 copies done in central repro cost £9 (a saving of £3.50, equivalent to 194 additional copies) and 2,000 copies cost £36 (a saving of £14, equivalent to 777 additional copies).

In this world of superhighway/Internet technology, there are areas of visual communications that still harp back to the days of the slate and scriber. One of these wonderfully simple ideas that has not changed in years is the old teaching stalwart, the OHP and transparency. I am sure that many of the world’s greatest ideas have seen the light of day projected, blurred and keystoned, on many a boardroom wall, courtesy of the humble OHP.
As the world of education embraces the technological galaxy of computer gadgetry, yes you’ve guessed it, the simple ohp has stuck its big toe in this sea of innovation. It is now possible for most of the staff of the university to design full-colour, professional-style, OHP transparencies from the comfort of their own networked PC.
With the aid of a software package called PowerPoint (available to all staff), your OHP transparency design can be transferred and printed in Media and Educational Development Services in full glorious technicolor, and can include pre-prepared clip-art graphics (a selection of these can be found within PowerPoint itself) and imported photography. This service is now fully operational from Mac and PC PowerPoint files. If you prepare your presentation on PC PowerPoint, you need to save the file as a PowerPoint 3 file. We can add to the presentation by scanning graphs, images and photographs.
