Feeling at home
At Leeds Metropolitan, we pride ourselves on the welcome we give to our students, and we will do our best to help you to feel at home, both on and off campus.
Whether you’re moving to Leeds from another country, another city or simply moving from a local school or college to study with us, we will give you a warm welcome.
Your first few weeks
If you’re starting in September, you’ll experience our Welcome Week, during which you’ll get to know both the University and the city. We also run a similar event for our international students starting in January and we will support you with practicalities such as registering with a doctor and opening a bank account. You will find details of how to get involved in welcome events on the online welcome information service.
Making friends and having fun
Part of feeling at home is having a network of friends with whom you can share your experiences. You may be worried about starting somewhere new where you don’t know anyone. If so, take a look at our Students’ Union website for details of societies and what’s on. Volunteering is another good way to meet people and boost your employability skills at the same time, so take a look at our volunteering page.
Finding your feet
Leeds is a multicultural city and has many specialist food shops where you can buy ingredients from many countries, including India and China. There are also places of worship for all major religions, including prayer rooms on both campuses.
Some students do take longer to settle in than others. If you’re having trouble feeling at home, get help sooner rather than later. Simply visit one of our Student Hubs to access our full range of support services, including counselling, financial support, and our University Chaplaincy.
