Personal Statement
Janet has been involved in tourism, conservation and development since 1979. She spent four years in Indonesia working with NGOs, and after returning to the UK became Senior Producer for the Indonesian Section of the BBC World Service. Following thsi, Janet pursued a career of travel writing, tour leading to remote areas of South-East Asia, and ecotourism consultancy in even more remote areas.

After several years lecturing in tourism and environmental subjects with the University of Humberside and the Open University, Janet worked in a management role for a UK-based tour operator while completing her PhD. 

She joined Leeds Met in 2004 and her current research interests focus on tourism's contribution to biodiversity conservation, tourism in Asia, and rural tourism.
