Ana Lucía first achieved a Licenciatura en Lengua y Literatura Española (five year programme) and a teaching diploma in education with a specialisation in Spanish language and literature in Ecuador before continuing her  studies in Paris where she graduated with an PhD in communication and information sciences from the University Panthéon-Assas. She has been lecturing Spanish and French at Leeds Metropolitan since January 2005 from beginners to proficiency levels both on the undergraduate and part-time programmes. She was also French coordinator and currently is German Coordinator.

She strongly supports the University's internationalisation strategy and believes that in the era of globalisation and European integration it is of crucial importance to work towards world-wide horizons and to develop students international opportunities and global perspectives.

For about three years she has been involved in an international research project on relations between Latin America and East Asia.
