Personal Statement
As with all in the teaching profession, one of the most enjoyable parts of my working life is to see students take their first hesitant steps towards University life and watch over time as they develop linguistic and academic confidence, achieving their Undergraduate or Post-graduate dreams.
Quite recently I met a student I had taught 6 years ago. I taught her at the beginning of her life in Leeds when her level of English was very low and she had little or no vocabulary. Now, here she was, dressed in her graduation robes, having achieved a good Masters degree in Business Studies , sharing a very funny joke with me! I felt the joy that all teachers feel on seeing a student they had taught achieve so much. But I was also aware of the many other teachers and lecturers who had helped to shape her academic career since I had taught her.
Often we never see the end result in this way, but it is great to think that we have all been, in some small way, a part of the chain that links our students to their future. For me this is the single most important aspect of my life as a teacher.
