Personal Statement
I am Reader in English Language Teaching (ELT) and coordinator for research and peer observation in ELT and Languages.
My main academic interests are in interpreting the relevance for the ELT classroom of recent findings in linguistics: my PhD, for example, investigated the potential relevance of recent discoveries about the grammar of native speaker spoken English to the much wider world of ELT. More recently, I have become interested in analysing spoken language itself, particularly from an historical perspective.
In the classroom, I have a long-standing interest in teaching lexis, developing tasks for noticing grammar and applying theory to practice in materials development.
Ivor is fully qualified to teach English as a Foreign Language in accordance with the British Council's TEFLQ standard.
