Personal Statement
I've been an English teacher since 1988, when I did my first Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL) course in London. My intention was to teach and travel for a couple of years, and then get a more "serious" job, but I got the teaching bug and enjoyed the teaching so much that I decided to stay in the profession.
After teaching in France, Japan, Germany and the UK, I started work at Leeds Met way back in 1995 and have taught General English and English for Academic Purposes as well as being a teacher trainer and educator on our postgraduate courses.
My main interests are teacher development, speaking skills, intercultural communication, methodology and materials development.
Outside work I like walking, reading, eating out and (contrary to popular opinion) camping.
Heather is fully qualified to teach English as a Foreign Language in accordance with the British Council's TEFLQ standard.
