About Us

English Language Teaching is a specialist centre at Leeds Metropolitan University and forms part of the School of Languages, in which we also teach 22 other languages. All of the English modules within our courses are accredited by the British Council. A specialist language resource area, with expert staff, is available to help students develop their language skills and a full-time Language Learning Adviser can help students with their individual language needs.

Our English language teaching focuses on English for Academic Purposes and preparing students for degree and masters programmes through, for example, our CertHE International Foundation Year and the 4-week and 10-week Pre-Sessional courses. In addition, we run full BA (Hons) degrees and one-year top ups in English as a Foreign Language combined with another subject such as International Business, Tourism ManagementEvents Management or International Relations.

All of the English modules within our courses are accredited by the British Council.

Our English Language Teaching was recently awarded 8 points of excellence by the British Council for teaching, teachers' qualifications, academic management, learner training, premises academic resources, leisure programme and pastoral care.

English Language Teaching also specialises in teacher education for teachers of English and other languages though our MastersCambridge Delta course and our tailor-made short courses in English Language Teaching methodology and materials development for groups of teachers. The focus of these courses is on professional development and on designing and producing curricula and materials appropriate for specific learners.

The English language unites many cultures as a first language or where there is an interest in learning it. Our aim is simply to provide excellent opportunities to all and to focus on ensuring the highest quality learning experience for our students.
