Personal Statement
Gavin Fairbairn is a teacher and 'jobbing philosopher' whose academic and professional interests focus on two main areas - applied ethics (especially the ethics of care) and academic literacy and style.
Both Gavin's research and his teaching are underpinned by his belief in the importance of storytelling. He began his academic career with thirteen years as a teacher educator, following many years as a practitioner in mental health, learning disability and therapeutic education.
Before coming to Leeds Metropolitan University Gavin was Professor of Professional Development in Nursing and Midwifery at the University of Glamorgan, and Professor of Education at Liverpool Hope.
