Why did you choose to study at Leeds Met?

The UK is known for having one of the best education systems in the world. I wanted to gain an international exposure and where better than in the UK? Leeds Met has a very professional-based educational reputation. The studies here are very industry-led with a practical approach. I wanted to experience this educational system.

The Scholarship
I have a strong background and good confidence in my previous professional experience. I felt my area of expertise was strong enough to be able to apply for the scholarship. In applying I had to submit my vocational and educational achievements and certificates. I also had to write an essay about a day in my life.

I was so thrilled to know that I was one of the few chosen to receive a scholarship from Leeds Met. It gave me the confidence to come to the university with an expectancy that my tutors will acknowledge me as a hard-working student.

Gaining the scholarship has given me a confidence and a sense of positivity that by working hard all my goals are achievable. I feel I have been accepted as a scholar and this in turn has given me a boost to try and work harder to achieve my dreams.

My family are so proud that Leeds Met recognised my achievements and rewarded me with the privilege of a scholarship.

What do you think of Leeds Met?
The Leeds Met approach to education is very different from what I had been previously used to. But, it really helps to develop a person and make them ready for
the corporate world. It’s very much a hands-on approach.

I was very nervous when I arrived here, but the university did all it could to welcome and comfort us and make us feel at home. My nervousness soon disappeared and I made many great new friends thanks to the welcome programme. The freshers’ festival was very good and all queries were handled quickly and efficiently. In fact, even beyond freshers’ and into every day life at the university all problems are readily and well handled here. A lot of care is taken to try meet the needs of every student.

Living in Mary Morris is like living with a big family! All the students living there are in the same position; we’re all internationals so we understand what each other endures being away from home. There are people from all over the world living in the residency, but we’re all very close, great friends, and consider ourselves to be “family” here in the UK.

Aspirations for the future
I have managed to attain a marketing job since coming to the UK. The job involves communicating information to the local people. The job gives me great exposure to business ethics and protocol in the UK and further enhances my degree.

I really hope to continue working in the UK after I graduate, which will in turn build up my CV and enhance the qualification I achieve from Leeds Met.

Leeds Met is a renowned university with a good name and a great reputation. It is also well known for its events and care given to its students. Just having a degree from such a reputable establishment will place me in good stead for all I do in the future.
