Leeds Met Reception for BARA

7th December 2005,
Headingley Stadium, Leeds

A reception event was held to celebrate the success of the British Asian Rugby Association (BARA) in winning the 72nd All India and South Asia Rugby Union Tournament in Mumbai earlier this year. The team was sponsored by Leeds Metropolitan University and we are proud to be associated with their BARA ethos and team spirit.

The BARA team was made up of British Asians from different faith backgrounds including former Leeds Met students. BARA is active in promoting healthy lifestyle through sport among the Asian community and in breaking down the barriers between people through participation in sport.

During the visit, the team's success on the pitch was matched by their achievement off it. In training sessions on the beach with street children, school visits and meetings with students and parents, they were worthy ambassadors for our University and our multicultural region. They are deserving of our wholehearted thanks.

Leeds Met has a long history of working successfully with partners in South Asia and in offering, through its Carnegie Faculty, world-class higher education in sport and education. Last year we opened Leeds Met South Asia, based in Delhi but serving the whole region.
