International
Reflections |
Friday 2nd September
Recently, the university recognised the service and achievement
of Leeds Met staff who had been at the university for 25 years.
Pleasantries shared with colleagues, over a glass, allowed me to
cast my mind back and think about the journey that I had shared
with the university since 1980. It really was distilled by my remark
that “There has never been a dull moment, but the highlights
are the times shared with other staff and students”.
Outsiders might think that university academic life is one spent
only in the classroom or engaged in research. Mine has been enhanced
by the opportunities that I have had by being involved with international
activity, my IT literacy enabling me to easily assimilate e-Learning
into my teaching and the student focus which I have maintained
in my assessment, learning and teaching. So, serendipitous though
it may be, I enjoyed my lunch with staff, each representing an
area which I believe core to our university values. The human “sandwich” was
digitally recorded for posterity and I share it here. Over conversation,
aspects of internationalism, volunteering and personal development
were discussed and a web site mentioned. Irrespective of where
it happens, http://www.hope.ac.uk/hopeoneworld/ does it for me.
