The UK is giving $100m of support to Zimbabwe this year. This money is spent on improving the lives of ordinary Zimbabweans through humanitarian and development programmes which offer direct assistance or helps build the foundations for future growth. Examples include food aid where necessary, health promotion campaigns to combat HIV and training for health workers. In agriculture there is a programme to provide seeds to smallholder farmers. In education the UK is helping 700,000 children access schooling and there is a schools partnership programme linking UK and Zimbabwe schools and other initiatives.

Leeds Met enjoys a high profile in Zimbabwe and is regarded highly. In Harare last week the Faculty of Business and Law started delivery of a Masters in leadership and change management which attracted around 30 students. We ran a British Council funded programme for senior university staff on internationalisation and establishing effective alumni and development programmes and on Wednesday evening more than 100 people attended our presentation at the British Council Management Express. As you can see there was not much time for reflection, if you would like to help or see a link with your current work please do not hesitate to get in touch.
