Applying to study in the UK and Extending your student visa
New immigration rules and new application forms now applicable
Since 31st March 2009, all student applications come under a new immigration category called Tier 4. Tier 4 is part of the UK Border Agency's points based must use the new application forms. Make sure you are using form Tier 4 (G), NOT the old FLR (S) application form. If you submit the wrong form, your application is likely to be rejected.
A fully comprehensive leaflet describing the process for new students wishing to attend the University can found here.
New Students
University Visa Workshop for extending your visa
Workshops are held every Tuesday afternoon at 2.30pm in room D108, Civic Quarter and on Wednesday afternoon at 2.30pm in room 101, Macaulay Hall, Headingley Campus. During the workshop, we will go through the form and give you information to support and guide you through the application.
Under the new system, all students will need 40 ‘points’ to apply to extend their stay in the UK. You will need:
A visa letter which gives 30 points. You must get this letter from the International Student Advice Service. We will give you more information about this at the workshop.
Maintenance funds which give 10 points. If you are applying to extend your stay in the UK, you will need to show you have enough money to pay your tuition fees (if they haven’t already been paid in full at the time that you make your application). You must also show that you have maintenance funds for 2 months. The maintenance funds level has been set at £600 for each month (so you must show £1,200). Your bank statement must be in your name. If you make your application after the 1st June, the last statement must show that the money has been in your account for at least28 days. It is important that your documents are less than one month old.
How Much will it Cost?
New application fees from 31st March, 2009
Visa extension applications for students Tier 4 (G) by post - £357
Tier 4 (G) applications made in person - £565
Dependants will need to apply on a separate form and there will also be a new additional charge of £50 per application for each dependant. You can also download this application form and the guidance from the UK Border Agency website.
