Showcase at the Mercer Art Gallery

30 January 2008

An exhibition featuring Knaresborough castle, by Harrogate College Art & Design students has been unveiled at the Mercer Art Gallery.

Guests to the special preview evening included Harrogate Mayor, Cllr Trotter, Knaresborough Mayor, Cllr Guest, Dean of Innovation North, Cath Orange, Harrogate College Deputy Principal, Julia Davidson and over 200 guests including students and their proud parents.

Students gained unlimited access to Knaresborough Castle to create a series of inspirational 2D and 3D artworks featuring the ancient ruins and surrounding park.

College Lecturers and former Knaresborough Castle artists in residence, Adam King & Edward Webster, set the students the brief, to answer questions on the site's possible future role in the community.

The Exhibition marks a first for the Mercer Art Gallery and Harrogate College with the installation of Art & Design students' artwork which will be assessed by Curator of Art, Jane Sellars, college lecturer Adam King and the visitors allowing the students to gain invaluable feedback for their work.

Student Hannah Tindale said: "It's the first time I did an etching and I learnt a lot through trial and error before coming up with the final piece. Showcasing my work at the Mercer Art Gallery has been very exciting and I can't believe I sold my work within 1 hour of the exhibition."
