01/10/2009

The Innovation North Postgraduate Showcase 2009 was held on Thursday 1 October 2009The event celebrated student achievements and the opportunity to view, interact with and talk to the creators of the projects in areas that included:

The beautifully restored Old Broadcasting House, presented a range of postgraduate awards in style. Projects included Samuel Nicholls', MA Music Production project of 'The Function & Sustainability of Artist as Producer & Performer'. Having set up his own recording company Dance to the Radio and worked commercially with the House of Mook, Sam's interest in understanding the process of production, led him to ask questions around the best uses of the different roles in producing a record. Sam commented, "The MA Music Production course has given me the confidence in my own ability to produce, and approach bands to record with them."

Joe Roe, MSc Games Development, created an IR Head Tracking device in 3d Environments. "It allowed me to explore the idea's I wanted to look at, and better them with more detail."

Ryan McMurray, MSc Sound Design, explored the quality of surround sound for film with a demonstration using speakers that projected the sound in all directions. The experience was impacting sound quality that engulfed the audience into the film.

The students work on display demonstrated the outstanding skills that had been developed, and the expertise from Innovation North that will act as a launch pad into their chosen careers.
