Music & Media Conference 2009

Thursday 3 September 2009 saw the launch of two new postgraduate awards - MA Audio Post Production and MA Music for the Moving Image, at the annual Music & Media Conference in partnership with JAMES.
These awards enhance our Creative Technologies portfolio of postgraduate courses. Launching the courses, Dennis Weinreich, Managing Director for Film and Television Post Production for Pinewood Studios Group, commented, "The marketable skills that these courses provide give talent an opportunity to grow, and so create talented post-production professionals."
Barbara Colledge, Dean of Innovation North, highlighted the benefits that these new awards will bring to students and employers alike, "Our strong links with industry, such as Pinewood Studios and JAMES, together with developments in the North, including the BBC's relocation to Salford, provide opportunities to engage with creative sectors in the region. These courses provide an opportunity for employers to retain and develop the creative skills and talent of the next generation of industry professionals."
The event brought a wide and varied panel of music industry experts to Headingley Campus in a joint initiative between Innovation North, the Regional University Network and Joint Audio Media Education Services (JAMES).
Day one opened with a keynote address from musician Steve Lawson, who took delegates on his journey from playing the music he loves, to finding the audience that loves it too. Having released six CDs on his Pillow Mountain Record label, Steve has carved out a niche for himself as a composer and improviser.
The two-day event continued with a keynote address by Dennis Weinreich, who looked at what audio post production is and the role it has in the overall film making process.
Industry professionals, educators, students and staff enjoyed a programme of master-classes, seminars, workshops, product demonstrations and lectures from a host of industry experts including Island Studios' Tony Platt, academic expert Sam Bennett, mixing engineer George Shilling and music master Mandy Parnell.
In 2007 Leeds Met became the first University to receive accreditation from JAMES, the body responsible for assessing the quality of music courses. JAMES is the educational arm of the Association of Professional Recording Services and the Music Producers Guild.
