Adult Learners' Week Success
Leeds Met alumni Daljit Sehmi has won the Adult Learners' Week Yorkshire and Humber Award in recognition of outstanding achievement. Daljit received her award at the regional Awards Presentation event held at Leeds Town Hall on Tuesday 20 May.
Daljit graduated from Leeds Met in July 2007 with first class honours in BSc (Hons) Business Information Technology.
She was nominated for the award by course tutor Alison Munn, "Daljit was not only an outstanding student, but also a dedicated carer and supporter of many people. Daljit returned to HE after a long absence and despite a lack of confidence in her own abilities she dedicated herself to her course whilst also making time to support younger students. I am delighted that her commitment and achievement have been recognised by this prestigious award."
Daljit commented, "I'm very pleased and overwhelmed to have won the award. I thoroughly enjoyed my two years at Leeds Met and would recommend going back to study to anyone. All my lecturers were fantastic and gave me such incredible support and help on the course. Its never too late to learn."
Every year Adult Learners' Week helps inspire thousands of people to see what learning could do for them, offering them the chance to catch up on skills they've missed out on in the past, or develop themselves for the future.
The week includes high-profile media campaigns, conferences and parliamentary activity pulled together by NIACE, the adult learning organisation.
