Under the Stars
The opening event for the Library Festival launched with a mini-festival Glastonbury style with a rock concert at Civic Library on Monday 24 November 2008. Students were invited to camp out under the stars amongst a main stage and chill-out area spread over three floors.
The stage lit up and ready for action had its presence graced by the likes of iLiKETRAiNS, Wild Beasts and new talent Crayon. Innovation North showed its colours amongst activities on the first floor which included nti's contribution of a Wii tournament that proved popular alongside the new grassroots project Our City Our Music that looked to sign up local bands for an innovative film production. External group EMA presented a social club that had virtual artists showing their talents throughout the night including grassroot films.
Speaking ahead of the event, Senior Lecturer, and DJ, Rebekka Kill said, "We sent over a hundred students to volunteer at festivals over the summer through our partnership with Festival Republic. Now it's time for something closer to home and I think this will sell out fast. It's a brilliant example of partnership in action with so many artists, performers and filmmakers wanting to be involved."
