PG Cert/PG Dip/MA Music for the Moving Image
Overview
Writing music for the moving image requires a unique combination of both technical and creative skills. This course aims to give you a critical appreciation of the theory together with a solid grounding in the techniques and practices essential for contemporary film and television music production. During the course you will get the opportunity to work with award winning composers from the film and television industry on real world practical projects. After developing your composition skills in a range of genres you will also have the opportunity to work with colleagues from across the scheme in a variety of media to develop your portfolio of work.
The emphasis on the course is to examine and adopt the latest approaches to scoring to picture. In addition to exploring the technology and practice of composition and thematic writing, together with orchestration and arrangement techniques, you will also spend some time looking at the impact of more sound design based approaches and the technology behind these. In addition to facilities for desktop based music production you will also spend time in our recording studios. These ten professional studios are recognised by JAMES, the accrediting body of the Music Producers' Guild and the Association of Professional Recording Studios, as being some of the best within the higher education sector in the country.
