JAMES (Joint Audio Media Education Services)

19 May 2009

Innovation North was the first university to receive accreditation from JAMES, the body responsible for assessing the quality of music courses. JAMES is the educational arm of the Association of Professional Recording Services and the Music Producers Guild.

The faculty is also a Regional Centre that helps JAMES create links between industry and Education. JAMES Regional Centres are a local point of contact for anyone providing education in the fields of recording, music production, media and music business studies.

The centres also provide students with information about JAMES accredited courses and how courses relate to the world of work. Innovation North's Regional Centre organises and hosts at least one large-scale seminar a year with leading music producers, sound engineers and other high level music and media industry specialists. Students and staff from local colleges and schools are invited to attend. Centres can also offer guest lectures, master-classes and events for careers officers depending on local needs, and may also provide JAMES Continuing Professional Development for teaching staff as well as organising trips and events associated with the industry.

A Regional Centre may also liaise with JAMES on funding issues, e.g. regional Life Long Life Learning Networks, Learning and Skills Council and Sector Skills Councils.
