Active Learning in Computing

CETL ALiC

Background

The Centres for Excellence in Teaching and Learning (CETL) initiative has two main aims: to reward excellent teaching practice, and to further invest in that practice so that CETLs funding delivers substantial benefits to students, teachers and institutions.

Active Learning in Computing (ALiC) will increase computing student’s engagement in the curriculum and make their experiences more relevant to industry. We will utilise a curriculum where exercises and assessments are more significant and encompass greater numbers of skills. The consortium will use its expertise in group and project work to focus the industrial-scale assignments for the students. New study practices will also be adopted using cross-year and cross-university teams. The consortium will also build on its expertise in the areas of assessment and student diversity to ensure that these student projects are efficiently and appropriate assessed.
