Social Work

The Social Work Group at Leeds Met has a long history of providing high quality education and training for students. We deliver a portfolio of courses, which include professional social work training at Undergraduate and Post-Graduate Levels, Pre and Post Qualifying Social Work Training and Education. Our mission is to provide students with a stimulating educational experience, which meets the challenges of providing social work and social care in the 21st Century.

Through strong partnerships with health and social care agencies from the statutory, voluntary and not for profit sectors within Leeds and West Yorkshire we are able to provide students with a wide range of social work practice experience. We are committed to improving access to social work training from all communities and have developed a range of initiatives and links which promote widening participation.

We have a strong commitment to Service User and Carer involvement and work closely with our colleagues within the Faculty of Health to provide students with the knowledge and experience to work effectively within and across professional boundaries. At the Social Work perriodic reappoval in April 2009, the GSCC commended the course on the exemplary practice in involving people who use services in assessment, learning and teaching.

Staff have a wide range of professional experience and current research and scholarly activity includes work with children and young people, safeguarding adults, work with people who misuse drugs and alcohol and Assessment, Learning and Teaching strategies.
