Rehabilitation Sciences

Welcome to Rehabilitation Sciences. We offer a portfolio of high quality undergraduate and postgraduate courses that prepare students for practice, and professional development. These range from Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy, Sports Therapy, and Community Neurological Studies. We believe that our reputation for providing a supportive and enjoyable learning environment for students stems from our strong educational and research background. Embedded within these courses is a philosophy of evidence based practice, which ensures they remain both innovative and current. To compliment this we offer a thriving research environment for our students, with excellent facilities that encourage scientific enquiry.

Our dynamic model of course delivery aims to provide the best possible opportunities for students to learn. To support this philosophy we have developed a range of activities to benefit students. Physiotherapy clinics have been established in partnership with Leeds University; Massage and Sports Therapy clinics are provided at Leeds Metropolitan University and at major sporting events (Great Northern Run); Occupational Therapy students have been involved with supporting the 'Restarting skills in the UK' programme for supporting Asylum Seekers; and students attached to the Centre for Community and Neurological Studies are able to undertake distance learning in Epilepsy, Stroke, Parkinson's Disease, and Multiple Sclerosis Care and are delivered in partnership with NeuroEducation at York Hospitals NHS Trust.

Elective clinical placements have also been undertaken as far a field as India, Malaysia, Tanzania, America and Australia and equally we offer a warm welcome to international students. Students are also encouraged to participate in volunteering activities and we have several partnerships including Holly Bank Trust, SNAPS - a local children's special needs swimming group, "Bocchia" games for children with disabilities and Brazilian Soccer Schools.

The Rehabilitation Sciences Group recognises the importance of a collaborative approach to learning, and enjoys close clinical links throughout the region. This helps to ensure that our students are well equipped for employment in a wide range of health care settings and able to make a positive contribution to our community.
