Psychological Therapies & Mental Health

The Psychological Therapies and Mental Health team reflects the increasing emphasis placed on the need for access to talking treatments therapies, within the NHS and mental health services.

We offer a range of courses for people working across the health and social care sector and in the helping professions. This includes counselling and psychotherapy courses and courses for people involved in mental health services in the NHS, Social Services and Voluntary the Sector.

The Centre for Psychological Therapies contributes to multidisciplinary education and research in counselling, psychotherapy and psychological therapies.

We have a number of partnerships with other training organisations and service providers in the community.

All of our work is informed by principles of recovery, psychological health and wellbeing. The importance of involving service users and carers in all aspects of mental health education, training and service delivery is also a core component of our provision. The Ten Essential Shared Capabilities are embedded in our mental health teaching, learning and assessment.

The group is committed to making a difference in practice. Teaching is constantly reviewed to ensure that it remains current and relevant to the needs of students.

In our work with statutory services, we value the contribution of everyone in the multi-professional team.

Our links with voluntary organisations, and professional bodies such as the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy and UK Council for Psychotherapy have led to wide recognition in the region.

We emphasise the social context of mental health and psychological well being and its contribution to a holistic model of practice.
