Nursing Group
Leeds Metropolitan University has an established record of providing education for undergraduate and postgraduate nursing.
This group provides courses for pre-registration nursing, specialist community public health nursing and community specialist practitioner nursing, as well as providing a wide range of continuing professional development courses and modules.
The pre-registration nursing courses include the BSc (Hons) Nursing, Adult Health and Mental Health, the community programmes include Health Visiting, District Nursing, Occupational Health Nursing, School Nursing, Practice Nursing and other routes. All of these are approved by the Nursing and Midwifery Council. Students are taught both within the University and on placements throughout Leeds and the locality. External clinical specialists, service users and carers contribute their expert knowledge and skills to the programmes.
Our continuing professional development courses support a diverse range of practitioners in both nursing and allied health professions to advance their clinical practice and be responsive to service need. Courses and modules are developed in response to the needs of our partner organisations. We work collaboratively to design a curriculum that develops practitioners' knowledge and skills to enable them to practise effectively and efficiently within a rapidly changing health care environment.
We offer many short courses and modules including Support for Learning in Practice, Clinical Skills, Heath Assessment, Non-Medical Prescribing and Leadership and also a suite of short modules focussing on clinical skills e.g. venepuncture, cannulation, ear care. The BSc (Hons) in Health Care Studies offers health professionals educated to diploma level (or equivalent) to top up to a degree through flexible, part-time study. The MA Health Care Studies is available for graduate health professionals.
A wide range of innovative assessment and learning approaches are used in all our provision, and there is an emphasis on the application of theory to practice. We are strongly committed to providing high quality education within a friendly and supportive environment. Please visit our course pages to find out more about individual courses.
