Postgraduate Research Opportunities
The Faculty of Health & Social Sciences offers the following research degrees on a full-time and part-time basis:
- Masters by Research (MRes)
- Master of Philosophy (MPhil)
- Doctor of Philosophy (PhD)
- Doctor of Philosophy by Published Work (PhD)
There are opportunities for postgraduate research in:
- Applied Global Ethics
- Feminism and Health Research
- Men's Health Research
- Health Promotion
- Management of Childhood Obesity
- Neurorehabilitation
- Pain and its Management
The above groups and centres reflect particular research strengths, however research degrees can be undertaken in any of the Faculty's subject areas, subject to the availability of appropriate supervisors and facilities.
The Faculty is also committed to developing the evidence base for practice among our health and social care professions and would support research into specific interventions and delivery of these services.
The normal entry requirement for a research award is an appropriate honours degree from a UK university or equivalent. Each student is allocated a supervisory team, who draw on their own experience to give relevant support and advice. In addition, students take part in an individually tailored research training programme.
Successful students design and undertake research, submit their work for written and, where appropriate, oral, examination, to an examination team of internal and external examiners.
