Staff and Students test their pain thresholds

The Centre for Pain Research completed a month of exhibiiting their research, from Manchester to Mumbai, by showcasing their work at the Helpzone at Headingley Campus. Visitors were invited to take part in various activities including testing their pain threshold, trying a TENS device and having their brain being tricked into believing they were experiencing sensations from an artificial hand.     

Recently, the team have showcased their research at the International Science and Technology Festival (Techfest) in Mumbai, India dealing with over 50,000 visitors over 3 days. Then 72 hours later the team exhibited at the Museum of Science and Industry in Manchester, which included a 30 minute show by Mark Johnson, Leeds Met's Professor of Pain entitled 'Ow! Does that hurt?'.This was listed as one of the five best events for children and families by the Independent newspaper's guide to going out.
