The world's leading brass band will perform a fundraising concert in Ripon Cathedral at 8.00pm on Thursday 27th August, helping the Himalayan Expedition 09 team to get another step closer to realising their Everest Base Camp ambitions! The concert is being held as a joint fundraising venture with proceeds being donated to the Cathedral's organ refurbishment appeal and to the Himalayan team in support of the Nepal-based Self Help Group for Cerebral Palsy. The evening's rich array of music will be conducted by Dr Nicholas Childs, MA, FLCM ARCM (Hons), who is heralded as a leading figure in the worldwide brass community. Dr. Nicholas Childs has rightfully achieved the highest international reputation as a performer, teacher/clinician, conductor, interpreter and advocate of new music, and producer of pacesetting recordings. The music programme includes arrangements by Paul Lovatt-Cooper and Elgar Howarth and features soloist performances by Richard Marshall (cornet), Sandy Smith (tenor horn), Brett Baker (trombone), Paul Duffy (soprano cornet) and David Thornton (euphonium). The evening will conclude with Wagner's Procession to the Minster. Tickets are priced at £18 (Reserved, central nave) and £14 (Unreserved). A limited number of VIP tickets for the evening are available for the evening. This unique package includes drinks on arrival at the Cathedral, an opportunity of a private preview of the Great North Art Show with the Chairman of the show and artist John Lowry, a 2-course pre-concert dinner at The Old Deanery including a glass of wine, front Nave seats for the concert, and interval drinks in the Cathedral Library for only £55 per person.
