The Anechoic Chamber is lined with sound absorbing materials which cover the walls, the ceiling, and even the floor. In here, sound behaves as it would outdoors, but without the distracting presence of other sources of noise. As well as investigating how sound propagates outdoors, students can take advantage of the very low noise levels to measure the sound emissions of domestic equipment and other machinery designed for use in quiet environments.
