The reverberation room has the acoustics expected of a much larger enclosed space such as medieval cathedral or a railway terminal. The internal surfaces reflect sound back into the room, and the “acoustic clouds” hanging from the ceiling break up any regular patterns of sound waves. In this room students can investigate the sound absorbing properties of building materials and measure the sound levels emitted by machinery. Together with the smaller room next door, it can be used to measure the sound insulation properties of building components such as windows and lightweight wall systems. |
