Centre for Men's Health
Welcome to the Centre for Men's Health
Established in 2007, the Centre for Men's Health is uniquely placed to help challenge, improve and understand men's health. Rather than focusing on health as primarily bio-medical, our aim is to develop an eclectic portfolio addressing the physical, psychological and social determinants that impact on the health of men.
To do this we have three programmes of work:
-
To look at how often different diseases and illness occur in men and women. This is called gendered epidemiology
-
To explore how men experience ill-health with a particular focus on highlighting ways that health services could improve
-
To improve men's health with a focus on ways of promoting health to individuals and large groups
The Centre prides itself on its close working partnerships with a broad array of health professionals, health services including the NHS, patient groups, policy makers, charities and social enterprises.
As part of its commitment to research led education and practice, staff from the Centre regularly act as external speakers, conduct internal lecturing at undergraduate and postgraduate level and provide research student supervision at Masters and Doctoral level.
