Professor Richard Hogston Reflects
One of my first responsibilities as the new Dean of the Faculty of Health was to inform colleagues of the exciting news of the personal Chair conferred on my Associate Dean colleague, Ieuan Ellis. Two years ago, we joined Leeds Met – what opportunities and rewards for us have followed. My second cross Faculty responsibility was to introduce the Vice Chancellor to open our Faculty Away Day. The enthusiasm and dynamism that Faculty colleagues demonstrated through participation in workshops from humour, complementary therapies, E learning and a healthy workplace helps us to refresh and enhance the student experience. Our away day was organised by a team of volunteers within the Faculty under the leadership of Rachel Jackson, our events and graduation officer. Colleagues commented that this was the best away day they have ever attended and new colleagues joining us from other Universities said the same. Whilst our away day took risks, we must all join in the lessons that humour bestows on us; Conversations, sharing experiences, networking and, above all, continuing professional development for staff and students merits celebration as our staff development festival demonstrates. Work starts now on how we can do things better next year. |
