What if I am unsure if I am eligible to attend?
Most students attending graduation will receive their final results in June / July.
All students must book their own place and any guest tickets between 1 May and 29 May 2013 to guarantee a student place and guest tickets for the graduation ceremony. If you subsequently do not pass your course we will issue a refund for any guest tickets you have purchased after the ceremonies have taken place.
If you do not book your own place between 1 May and 29 May 2013 you will be charged a late booking for of £50 if you subsequently want to attend graduation. In these circumstances we cannot guarantee you will be able to purchase guest tickets. We therefore advise that you book your place and any guest tickets even if you are unsure if you will be eligible.
Will I receive my certificate on the day?
Yes you will receive your certificate after you have been on stage. If for any reason it is not possible for us to present you with your certificate on the day, you will receive a letter in place of a certificate, which will explain why.
Please note if you do not attend your Graduation you can collect your certificate from Leighton 213, Headingley Campus between Monday 5 August and Friday 9 August. Certificates can only be collected by the graduate unless the nominated person collecting the certificate has a verifiable letter from the graduate authorising them to be able to collect it on the graduates behalf.
If your certificate is not collected by Friday 9 August it will be posted out to the address the university holds for you, therefore, please ensure the University has your most up to date address. If you need to update your address please contact your course administrator, they will then need to update our Awards & Exams team.
Please note it can take up to 8 weeks following your ceremony for your certificate to be posted to you.
For any other certificate related queries please contact: awards&exams@leedsmet.ac.uk

Can I graduate if I have University debts?
If you have an outstanding debt with us, you will not be able to attend a graduation ceremony until it has been settled.

Why do I have to pay for guest tickets?
We are committed to providing our students and guests with the best possible experience on this celebratory day and the guest charge ensures we can deliver this. We do not charge for student places and we do not make a profit from graduations, but rather we subsidise the costs.
The guest ticket price covers free onsite parking, entry to the auditorium and a copy of the ceremony programme. We also provide a free live streaming of all ceremonies enabling all graduates to watch their ceremony after the day as a memento.
Graduation Gown Fund
If you feel that you are unable to attend your graduation due to lack of finances, we are offering 25 bursaries (funded by Wm. Northam) to cover the cost of hiring your graduation gown, hood and hat, for students graduating in Summer 2013.
You will need to demonstrate that you are experiencing financial hardship and will be required to complete an application form.
We will accept applications from students
- who receive a partial maintenance grant from the Student Loans company, please supply a copy of your Student Finance Breakdown for 2012/13
- and/or you can provide evidence of financial difficulties, please supply 3 months’ worth of detailed bank statements including details of any overdraft you may have and any other evidence to support your situation.
