John Walker - BA (Hons) Garden Art & Design
John Walker has graduated with a first from BA (Hons) Garden Art & Design and is one of the Cyrus Design team who won gold at the Chelsea Flower Show. As a mature student working in the Civil Service, John chose Leeds Met because of the flexible learning opportunities available and its reputation in the garden design industry.
Speaking about Chelsea , John said: “It was wonderful to build and plant the real garden that a few months earlier was just a drawing. As a group we learnt so much about team work, negotiation, co-ordination, planning and making things happen. We were amazed at what we achieved. It was great to chat to and get such positive feedback not only from ordinary garden enthusiasts but landscape architects and designers from around the world.”
John was joined at graduation by his mother Joyce and partner Anita who said “The Vice-Chancellor’s speech was inspiring and I was really surprised and pleased that the Chelsea Flower Show team got a mention. It’s been a very impressive day all round.”
John has just started working at Arabella Lennox-Boyd in London where he plans to design gardens that balance beauty with a positive impact on the environment.
