Important informationLeeds Met continues its business continuity planning for the current Swine flu pandemic to minimise impact on services. Please keep checking this site for the latest information and advice from the University. Latest News The first vaccinations in the UK-wide programme aimed at combating the spread of swine flu have taken place. Seriously ill hospital patients and health staff were the first to be given the jab. GPs are now inviting people with health problems and pregnant women to come forward for immunisation. The government has yet to decide whether the rest of population will be immunised, although enough doses have been ordered. So far around 500,000 people in the UK have been infected with swine flu. The National Flu Service continues to offer sufferers of Swine flu access to drugs without visiting a GP. People in England can phone 0800 1 513 100 or log on to www.direct.gov.uk/pandemicflu. Pregnant women, people with health conditions, and babies, will continue to be referred to a doctor. The service enables people to telephone a number or visit a website in order to be assessed by answering questions about their symptoms. If they are diagnosed as having Swine flu, they will receive a voucher number to enable a 'flu friend' to collect their drugs from a designated collection point. The 'flu friend' will need to present ID for the patient when they collect the drug.
Who will your 'flu friend' be? Give this some consideration now.
Please be vigilant at this time. Keep your working environment clean; wash your hands thoroughly and regularly, and look out for your friends and housemates.
