Latitude Festival 2012
Read all about our volunteers' experience volunteering at Latitude Festival 2011 on our blog here As well as three music stages, Latitude Festival features comedy, cabaret, theatre, literature, poetry, art, film and dance tents. It is set in beautiful surroundings around a lake and woods in Henham Park, in the Suffolk countryside. Visit the festival website for more general information. Dates: You will need to be available from Tuesday 10th to Monday 16th July inclusive. You will need to be available from Tuesday 10th to Monday 16th July inclusive. Transport: Return transport from Leeds to Henham Park will be provided free of charge. Food: Some meal vouchers will be provided during the festival but you may also wish to bring food with you. Accommodation: You will be in a staff campsite and you will need to bring a tent or arrange to share with another volunteer. The descriptions below are to help you decide which role you would like to apply for. They are intended to give an idea of what the role will involve, but are not a guaranteed or exhaustive list. All volunteers will be expected to make the most of their experience by helping out wherever needed and appropriate. You will be supported on-site by Leeds Met staff. Lake StageThe Lake Stage is run in association with BBC Introducing to give up-and-coming bands and solo musicians a chance to perform at a major UK festival. Performances are recorded and broadcast on BBC national and/or local radio. Volunteers on the Lake Stage will work with a Stage Manager and crew employed by Festival Republic. Working hours: Between 9am and 9pm (breaks to be arranged within team). Stage Manager Production Manager Artist Liaison (two positions) Stage Crew (two positions) Film CrewThe film crew will be given a brief to produce one or more short films at the festival. Filming will focus on the Lake Stage but also cover other volunteers at the festival and some general footage.
Working hours: Various - mostly days but may involve evening shift(s). Director Producer Camera Operator (two positions) Sound Engineer (two positions) Researcher (two positions) Editor HATs (Helpful Area Teams)HATs will work in teams, spread around the festival arena. Volunteers will be a visible presence in the arena, assisting festival-goers with directions and information, and reporting on any problems - such as litter and facilities. Meet our volunteers
Lucy McCann is an Events Management alumnus from Leeds Met, who worked for Festival Republic this year at Latitude as Artist Liaison. From working previously at Latitude with our university, she made important contacts and kept in touch with her supervisor at the time. As a result of this she was offered paid work this year. She comments that "networking and staying in touch with people is vital for a career in the music industry."
