Update on planning process as at 22 November 2010
Dear Colleagues
My thanks to all colleagues who have been able to attend our planning meetings and submit comments and suggestions to our plan. We have now submitted our student number plans and have reviewed our current progress and potential end of year position - we will make copies of these high level summaries available when we have these. Some feedback received recently is provided so you can see the suggestions made by others. We would like all feedback on templates from groups/teams to be in by Wednesday this week at the latest so that we can then continue to update our draft plan and template. An outline draft is provided here which we will be working on this week. We will review an updated version of this at our planning day on 15 December (am) and we will also consider further our broader vision and re-positioning for our work . The draft vision that we discussed earlier in the year is provided for you to review. I welcome any feedback on any of these documents and on our strategic plan.
We are setting out to position our Faculty as a leader in business and law professional education, with a strong emphasis on employability, vocational relevance and strong links with practice/business. Our work will be highly sought after and we will have achieved a strong regional position as a leader in our field and for providing a professional, high quality, relevant, supportive and caring experience for all our students. Our high student satisfaction levels and employability outcomes will evidence this. We will have grown our research and enterprise work and income and will be recognised for this work regionally and in the REF at world leading and internationally recognised levels in business and management and in communications/PR. We will have a global reach, strong international recruitment and we will be connected to practice globally. Our postgraduate, professional and corporate work will have grown significantly and we will be a natural first choice for company/business training, professional development and selected executive programmes.
This is a short summary as a starter for ten of what we are seeking to achieve. I welcome further thoughts on a statement about what we are seeking to deliver as our vision.
We have a challenging time ahead and we will need to focus our energy on new sources of income growth in 2011/12 and for this year. We still need to do more to deliver our planned income for this year and we are working on the development of our action plan to address this with subject group leaders.
I look forward to your further comments and completed templates for feedback on our plan.
Barbara
Faculty Planning 2010/11 and 2011/12
Colleagues, our Corporate Plan sets out our strategic direction and KPIs. We will develop our Faculty's contribution to this in our Faculty Plan to be submitted by 14 January 2011. This will focus on the outcomes for this year and 2011/12. I would like everyone to contribute to the development of our Faculty plan which we all will be responsible for delivering. Further information on our Faculty planning process, including Faculty Planning Days and other recent developments is set out in our November issue of our Faculty newsletter. I look forward to discussing this with you all and hope that you will discuss this widely.
Information, reports on progress and updates will be available via this Faculty intranet and suggestions via our fblmarketing@leedsmet.ac.uk are welcome. Please use the title Faculty Planning Process for these e-mails so we can ensure we capture all this feedback.
Details of our planning schedule and dates for faculty planning days are provided here also. Our main faculty planning day is on 22 November with a follow up on 15 December. I hope as many colleagues as possible will be able to attend.
I have also arranged for some Open Meetings to be held in the Rose Bowl and Cloth Hall Court which will be a relatively informal way for us to engage in discussions about our work. I do hope that you will be able to attend one of these.
