At a time when issues of global finance and financial systems have been under the spotlight, Accounting & Finance is more relevant than ever before. Our BAAF degree achieved a student satisfaction rating of 93% in the 2010 National Student Survey which means that we are one of the top twenty Accounting & Finance departments in the UK in terms of student satisfaction.
Links with Industry
We have professional links with a wide range of organisations, including KPMG, Redmayne-Bentley Stockbrokers and the Audit Partnership. Students have opportunities to engage with key figures from the professions. All of our staff have professional business experience, with a number having large audit firm experience and many holding doctoral qualifications.
We passionately believe in bringing our students into contact with top professionals; guest lectures provide an opportunity for students to meet experts from their chosen field. In 2010 our guest speakers have included Angela Knight, Chief Executive of the British Bankers' Association and Xavier Rolet, Chief Executive of the London Stock Exchange. Students can view and book onto events using our latest events section.
Students are given the opportunity to take part in the Student Investment Club which is run in partnership with Redmayne-Bentley Stockbrokers. The aim of the Student Investment Club is to encourage students' entrepreneurial and business skills and to help develop the skills and knowledge that they will need as graduates. This year each member of the winning group will win £100.
Many students opt to take a placement year so that they can gain professional experience and are helped to find an employer by our Placements Office.
Postgraduate & Professional Awards
Students joining us as undergraduates can develop their careers from undergraduate study through to either postgraduate or the ACCA professional award. We offer a wide range of postgraduate awards and attract students from across the world. Either the the MSc Accounting & Finance or the MSc Finance are ideal choices if you have a general business background and wish to specialise in accounting or finance at postgraduate level. In contrast the MSc Accounting is a specialist programme which is suitable for those who are exempt from or who have completed the ACCA Fundamentals level. We are able to offer significant accreditation for prior learning to CCAB qualified accountants who choose this route.
