The Faculty of Business & Law at Leeds Metropolitan University is a leading provider of undergraduate, postgraduate and professional education, with a strong emphasis on employability, vocational relevance and strong links with business and professional practice.
We are recognised as pioneers in our field and for the professional support and impact provided for our students and business partners. Our high quality, professionally relevant and engaging curriculum develops skills for employment, enterprise, innovation and leadership in a global economy.
We are committed to making a contribution to our region and to the wider global economy.
The Faculty contains two major brands - Leeds Business School and Leeds Law School.
Leeds Business School
Leeds Business School has a long and prestigious history, dating back to the Leeds School of Commerce, which was founded in 1845 and incorporated into Leeds Polytechnic in 1970. Over 5,000 students study our business provision at the multi award winning Rose Bowl in Leeds city centre. The Rose Bowl opened in May 2009 as Britain's newest purpose-built business school.
Leeds Business School offers programmes in Business, Management, Accounting & Finance, Human Resource Management, Marketing, Public Relations & Communications, Strategy, International Business and our full-time and part-time MBA.
Leeds Law School
Our law courses are based at Cloth Hall Court in the heart of the city's legal district, where we have been based since 2005. This maximises opportunities for law students to work closely in partnership with employers and professional bodies.
Employable graduates:
Our graduates and students are skilled, employable and competitive. The vast majority have work experience from part-time jobs, projects and placements, equipping them with the skills needed to make an immediate impact in an organisation. We work closely with businesses and professions to ensure the relevance of our programmes and we boast an employability rating of 92%. We prepare students for professional success - developing skills that will maximise their opportunities for career progression. Many of our students hone their skills via placement opportunities with companies such as Panasonic, General Motors, John Lewis, IBM and Morrisons, amongst others.
Professional connections:
We have developed close partnerships with professional bodies such as the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA), the Chartered Institute of Personnel & Development (CIPD), the Institute of Directors (IoD), the Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply (CIPS), the Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM) and the Chartered Institute of Public Relations (CIPR). We also deliver kite mark professional body qualifications on behalf of these organisations, including the exclusive regional franchise to deliver IoD Director Development programmes.
Career focus:
Our students can maximise their career potential by taking part in a range of added value activities. These include a mentoring scheme for postgraduate law students with regional solicitors, our Student Virtual Investment Club with Redmayne-Bentley Stockborkers, PR communications audits and competitive pitches, the national IBM Universities Business Challenge, the AVIVA Future Advisor Programme, mooting challenges and legal competitions in Leeds Law School.
Learning with the experts:
We passionately believe in providing opportunities for our students to learn from experts in their chosen field. Recent guest lecturers have included Xavier Rolet, CEO of the London Stock Exchange, Michael Baker, past Chair and President of the Academy of Marketing and Angela Knight, Chief Executive of the British Bankers Association. We also offer a branded CIPR lecture series featuring speakers from companies such as Asda (Wal-Mart UK) and Unilever plc, whilst our law students have met speakers from leading law firms such as Eversheds and Pinsent Mason.
Whatever your interest, whether it be as a potential student, corporate client or research collaborator, we look forward to meeting you.
