Background:
Dorron's parents emigrated from India in the mid 1950s and settled in Birkenhead where he was born in 1959. Looking back this Indian heritage clearly created his lifelong interest in global development and being locally rooted in Merseyside meant that he had to quickly decide which path to take in life. He was fortunate to take the right one by supporting Everton Football Club!
Dorron studied Politics, Philosophy and Economics at the University of Oxford and spent five years doing a variety of jobs before training as a teacher at the University of York and then teaching "A" level Economics at Queen Mary's sixth form college in Basingstoke. He has a Masters in the Political Economy of Development from the University of Leeds and before coming to Leeds Metropolitan University he was the B.P. Fellow of Economic Awareness at the University of Durham.
Summary of experience:
Dorron joined Leeds Business School in 1989 where he developed a range of economics modules and was active in curriculum development, academic management and Learning Teaching and Assessment approaches.
He was subject leader for Economics when the Quality Assurance Agency awarded the work of the department a score of 24/24 for the quality of its provision. Having served as an Associate Dean and Head of the School of Economics and HRM, Dorron joined the International Faculty to establish the new curriculum areas for the University in Development Studies, international relations and Peace studies and to lead in the creation of the Applied Global Ethics subject group.
Dorron has rejoined the Business School in his current role as the subject group leader of the Economics and International Business group but continues his involvement with the School of Applied Global Ethics.
Areas of Expertise and Research Interest:
Dorron has always been actively involved in the promotion of economic awareness in higher education. His particular academic interest lies in the political economy of globalisation in relation to the developing world and the ethical implications of economic policy.
