I am currently working towards my finals and completing my dissertation.
The initial stimulus for my project ‘Adventurous Therapy: A Soothing Affect on Disaffected Youths’ is largely as a result of inspiration gained from attending lectures on the Everest West Ridge Expedition, 2006.

Notions of significant challenge, uncertainty in outcome, and resilience has had me gripped and confirmed my decision to focus my dissertation on the outdoors. After consulting my Supervisor, who is actually going to Everest, I decided to evaluate the use of a programme of outdoor activities designed to facilitate behavioural shifts in youths who have failed to respond to mainstream education. The research has involved active participation with individuals, requiring me to overcome my fears and pre-conceptions and to learn more about my own shortcomings.

The Everest West Ridge challenge provides an amazing insight into extreme outdoor adventure, and has helped form the basis of my own challenging study. It represents a remarkable undertaking for all teams involved, especially the junior squad, who, as of beginners, are embarking upon an incredible journey of uncertainty.

In addition to the physiological, psychological and nutritional support from Leeds Met, I am proud to be studying alongside such a great event.
