Today I possess a conflict of emotion. These range from tempered joy, humility, sorrow and hope. As yet, I show no discernable signs of AMS, hence the inward satisfaction. The overwhelming Tibetan landscape of manicured pastures and towering white giants inspire well-being and gratitude.

Now being aware that the EWR climbers will not summit elicits sadness but also optimism in their capacity to cope. I have only glimpsed through a similar window of disappointment but expect to encounter climbers’ introspection and a search for reason.

Team connectedness will be required as critical issues begin to surface. The shared ethos of compatibility will be tested and virtues re-visited. I have faith in the team’s trust of each other in such a harsh environment where escape is impossible. I wish to discover that honesty and moral endeavor will prevail as alternatives to the outcome are explored. Tolerance will be a considerable challenge.

Critically, the expedition has touched lives and inspired many.
However, the result will be evaluated and questioned. The ultimate objective has not been realised.

This journey to fulfillment means embracing the positives that will enable learning, recovery and provide impetus for the next challenge.
